Taking notes in the Project Vanity x Estee Lauder makeup workshop

A week ago I attended the Project Vanity x Estee Lauder makeup workshop hosted by Liz at her place. The makeup workshop was quite comprehensive, including both a guide to everyday skincare and a hands-on lesson on event-appropriate makeup. The model is the lovely Krissy of Krissyfied.

There were a lot of great tips that Liz shared in the workshop, and I wanted to make sure I remember them. As I have my planner-wallet with me at all times, I grabbed it and took notes in the planner half! My TN in this case is my Macata TN in passport size. I’d like to show you the notes I took.

The passport size is indeed a small size, but I find that it is enough space to take notes. The fact that it’s very portable and it is always with me ensures that I always have something to take notes in. I used my trusty Coleto to write with.

I don’t really mind that it may not be as neat as notes taken in a bigger notebook, as long as my notes are clear and understandable. A new thing I’ve tried recently is putting rough sketches in my notes, and I think it looks understandable given how quickly I sketched them out.

Check out the gallery below to see more photos of the workshop.

I hope you enjoyed looking at my notes, and big big thanks to Liz and Estee Lauder!

Beauty Recently: Biore and SkinWhite

Even though my blog has turned to paper, I did not completely swear off makeup and skincare. Especially now that the weather has turned a bit colder, I’ve started wearing more makeup again and felt more confident that it will not melt off five minutes after I put it on. Admittedly, I have not been using any skincare either beyond sunscreen and sunblock during the summer months (que horror!) but I’ve now started picking up where I left off. Here’s what excites me recently:

My go-to sunscreen in the colder months is Biore UV Aqua Rich Whitening Essence, SPF50+. I like the texture of this sunscreen, very smooth and silky and more importantly very light on the skin. It does not feel like I have something thick or heavy when I have this on, and I think it does not easily melt or sweat off. I could not comment on the whitening effects of this because I don’t really take note of that.

Biore is now available in the Philippines, distributed by Vibelle Corporation (also handles Jergens and Caronia). Biore products can be bought from Watsons, Landmark, and certain supermarkets! I’m very excited because I’ve seen Liz’s review of the Aqua Rich Watery Essence, which is something I’m keen on trying.

My go-to skin lotion is SkinWhite Advanced Whitening Lotion. It’s a nice moisturizing lotion for the body, and is quite nice smelling. It’s a little heavy for the summer months, but perfect for recent cooler times. It’s very easy to spread and feels great on the skin.

The Beauty Scenario Tag

I was tagged by Rae, prompting me to finally do a beauty post after a long series of paper-related posts. Thanks Rae! The Beauty Scenario Tag is basically just a bunch of scenarios/questions that I have to answer.

You have to get rid of all of your foundations and keep only one high-end and one drugstore, which would you keep?

I don’t really have any high-end foundations, so I’m not considering that. For midrange I’ll go with Ellana Minerals Loose Mineral Powder Foundation in Caramel Latte (I need a pressed version of this!) and for drugstore it will be Pixy UV Whitening Two Way Cake.

You go for an interview and the lady interviewing you has lipstick on her teeth. Do you approach the subject or ignore it completely?

As an interviewer (part of my job), I wouldn’t really mind if the interviewee mentions it or not. I would, however, mind if he/she keeps looking at it and being distracted from the actual interview and not telling me about it. If I were the one being interviewed, I’ll definitely just ignore it completely.

You’re not feeling yourself and you need a pick-me-up lipstick, which do you go for?

A pink would always feel like a great pick-me-up because it’s fun and bright. In my stash, one of my favorite pinks is Ofra #205.

You go back in time for a day to your teenage years, how would you do your hair or makeup differently?

The only thing I would change is to use sunscreen more often. I didn’t wear makeup back then, and I have always gone with a wash-and-wear (or wash-and-tie) hairstyle until today, and I wouldn’t change that at all.

You ask your hairdresser for a shoulder length Pixie Lott hair cut but they hear wrong and give you a pixie cut, what do you do?

A) Smile, say thank you, call your mum and cry hysterically
B) Cry in the chair and things get awkward
C) Complain to the manager and demand a refund

Like Rae, I had to google who Pixie Lott is. I couldn’t really relate to this question though, as I never had hair longer than shoulder length. I wouldn’t at all mind if they gave me a shorter hair than I asked for, most especially since my husband is a huge fan of short hair. I would call my mum though, just so she can have a laugh with me about it!

Your friend surprises you with a 4 day city break and you have one hour to pack, which ‘Do It All’ palette do you pack in your makeup bag?

I will take my Clinique All-in-One Colour Palette with me, as not only does it have all the makeup I need but it also has usable brushes. Perhaps the only thing it doesn’t have is eyebrow makeup, but I can always diy the eyeshadows for it. This palette is in fact living in my glove compartment at the moment.

Your house has been robbed, don’t worry everyone is safe, but your beauty stash has been raided. What’s the product you really hope is safe?

As again, I do not really have a lot of high-end makeup. Perhaps the one I would hope is safe would be my Colourpop items, as these aren’t really available locally yet and are pretty hard to rebuy.

Your friend borrows makeup and returns it in an awful condition. Do you:

A) Pretend you haven’t noticed
B) Ask them to re-purchase it
C) Secretly do it back to their makeup

I’ll mention it to her/him just so they are aware of the state of the makeup, but beyond that I wouldn’t do anything. It was probably an accident of some sort.

So! I choose you, Pikachu!

What I Packed: Makeup (Palawan 2015)

Over the easter weekend I got to visit Palawan for the first time! I absolutely loved it there. Such a pristine place and not too commercialized. As we planned nothing else but to stay on the beach and do beach stuff, here’s all the makeup I brought.

Pixy UV Whitening Two-Way Cake – the only base I brought. I figured I didn’t really need a lot of options, but I definitely wanted to bring one with SPF. I actually hit pan on this already! I’m just also using it up before I buy a refill.

Colourpop Super Shock Eyeshadow in Smash – it’s really the most abused base color I use in my stash, and it definitely went into my kit.

Pixy Eyeshadow in 01 Romantic Poem – I just brought this along for pops of color, and the fact that it’s quite small and it has a tiny sponge applicator.

Pixy Blush On in 02 Brown Tea – Again same reasoning as the eyeshadow, being compact and comes with its own tiny brush. I also like that it’s a brown shade instead of the usual pinks and reds, perfect for the beach!

Happy Skin Eye Love View Eyebrow Duo – Among my eyebrow products this claimed to be waterproof (which you’ll actually see in action below!). It also comes with a marker side, in case I really wanted a very polished look.

Fairydrops Platinum Mascara – I brought this for the waterproof factor, and the fact that this is on its last legs and I’m just using it up. Will be sad to see this go, as I can no longer replace this locally.

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Honeysuckle – My recent go-to lip balm, which never leaves my purse anyway.

Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Bellissima – The only red lipstick I brought (learned my lesson from my last trip haha!). Which, ironically, wasn’t used on the trip!

Ofra Lipstick in #205 (not pictured) – And the only pink lipstick I brought. This one was used more because I didn’t really feel like using red lipstick on the beach.

All of these were packed in an old small Clinique pouch that was probably a GWP somewhere. I liked that I brought very little makeup here, which matched exactly the use I wanted out of them. It also helped keep my packing light!

I actually had eyebrows here! Kudos to Happy Skin! This photo was taken while IN the water, trying to take a selfie with the early moon. XD

What’s New: Caronia Shades of Summer

A very sweet surprise greeted me upon coming home one day. Caronia very kindly sent over this very intriguing set of nail polishes housed in a very handsome looking box! This is Shades of Summer, six great colors that will definitely put you in the summer mood!

Check out the colors! From left to right they are:

  • Summer Fling – a coral red tone that brings back that first blush and summer love
  • Rainbow Tan – a frosted skintone tint that brightens up your toe nails
  • Sun Kissed – a pumpkin orange glow that matches your wavy beach hair
  • Sweet Surprise – your favorite yellow shade that will remind you of those sweet summer moments
  • On-The-Go – an aqua green color that gives us an adventurous feeling to take on a new challenge
  • First Crush – the flawless rich lilac hue that sets out your youthful vibe

Rainbow Tan is the shade I’m most excited to try! Next to that is a different-color-per-nail spread that just screams summer! Watch out for that as I’ll be sure to post swatches.

Disclaimer: The set of six nail polishes and the box was kindly sent to me by Vibelle Manufacturing Corporation for my consideration.

What I Packed: Skincare (Caribbean 2015)

A continuation of the What I Packed series in my latest trip, this time for skincare. This is basically what I brought.

I packed some of these in the same Ellana makeup bag that I used as there were still some space, and the rest in a generic mesh zip pouch. What I have are, going from left to right top row first, then bottom:

Bifesta Eye and Lip Makeup Remover – big bottle, but very little product left. I figure it should not be a big deal to bring since it’s practically empty.

Olay Moisturizer – again a big bottle. For some reason I couldn’t find my travel sized Celeteque Hydration moisturizer so I brought this instead.

Marks & Spencer Body Powder – a big bottle yet again! I had a travel sized bottle of Johnson’s baby powder, but it was almost empty and I am a huge body powder user that I’m sure it would run out on me. I brought this one instead.

Jergens Ultra Healing Body Lotion – This is the smallest bottle I can find in my stash, which wasn’t so bad all things considered.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch Sunblock – I didn’t have any other sunblock available, so this went in my bag.

Etude House Dear Girls Be Clear Moisturizer – is actually not much a moisturizer, but a facial sunblock. Again, no other option available, so into the bag it went.

Nivea Extra Whitening Deodorant – is the only deodorant I will use, so a fresh one went into my bag.

Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner – finally something travel sized! A no brainer toner that is an automatic bring.

Bifesta Agecare Cleansing Lotion – also in travel sized! I filled this up from my current big bottle, and is a great partner to the eye and lip makeup remover.

Vitress Hair Cuticle Coat – all of the Vitress bottles I have are small enough for travel, but this is the tiniest! Love this thing!

Celeteque Hydration Facial Wash – apparently this is the only surviving one from my Celeteque travel kit as I couldn’t find its toner and moisturizer partners.

Pure n’ Fresh Cologne in Tropical Fresh – I’m not such a huge perfume person so I didn’t really care what fragrance I brought as long as it was small, and smelled decent.

There we go! Thanks for reading! Next and last in this series will be my craft carry.

OOTD: Manhid

Since I got a chance to have someone take outfit photos, I’ll take this opportunity to post about an OOTD worn on the day my husband and I watched Manhid: Pinoy Superhero Musical.

I really liked how this turned out. The whole combination of well-fitting dress (Paperdolls) + black stockings + slouchy boots (S&H) seem really put together, and was actually quite comfy. In addition my husband looks quite dashing here as well!

FOTD: Purple Lips

In the ultimate attempt to step out of my comfort zone, I bought a purple lipstick from Colourpop called and Grind. I finally had enough courage to wear it out and here is the result.

It’s… actually not bad? It’s definitely purple, but it doesn’t seem to be as strange as I thought it would be. It actually looks like a fun color! The finish is very matte, and perhaps a little drying.

I really thought it would be a lot lighter than this, considering the arm swatch I posted earlier.

The strange thing is, it looks quite pink when I took a shot in the sun. Perhaps it’s the shadow/lighting aspect?

In conclusion, purple lips aren’t such a strange or bad thing!

Colourpop Haul and Swatches

The brand Colourpop has been recently taking the beauty world by storm. With 5-dollar products it’s really hard to say no. I jumped in the bandwagon and got myself a couple of lipsticks and three eyeshadows. I ordered from Nicolette Makeup (IG) at Php350 each (+shipping fee) and my package has just arrived. Let me show you what I got!

Read on for what shades I got and the swatches.
