1. [Hair] Lucido-L Hair Make Supplement Treatment Oil for Straight
As I mentioned in the unboxing, this is one of the reasons I bought the SM Beauty Box. I wanted to try out a hair oil specifically for straight hair (even though mine is quite wavy), and this one really performs. The scent is wonderful as well.
2. [Eyes] Fairydrops Platinum Mascara
Much raves I have seen for this mascara, and I am glad to report that I find the raves to be true. This mascara really gives that much-needed length and volume to my sparse lashes, and stays on pretty much the whole day. It takes a lot of effort to get this off! I got this mascara from the BDJ Elite Box Girls Night Out.
My collection of BB creams is growing, and thus I didn’t really expect to like this one. It takes a lot to stand out from the bunch, but I found that this BB cream from Color Collection is doing just that. I’ll update this with a link to the full review, but suffice to say that I am much taken in by this tube. I got this from the September BDJ Box.
4. [Body] Ralph Lauren Big Pony Yellow
Gasp! A fragrance, in my favorites? Alas yes, I have to be honest and say that I am totally taken by this roll-on scent. I use this everyday and I feel that it holds on to me for most of the day too. The roll-on mechanism is a novelty as well; this is my first fragrance that comes in a roll-on bottle instead of a spray bottle. I got this from the BDJ Elite Box Girls Night Out.
I really like to shade of this, a very bright and sunny green. If I didn’t have a lot of new polishes to swatch, I would have worn this a lot more frequently. As it is, the quality of this polish makes me want to get more Models Own. I got this from the Glamourbox Boutique.
I’m admittedly bitter about some things that happened lately, but I will choose to focus on the bright side. I got the second BDJ Elite Box to make myself feel better about things, and I have to say that it did cheer me up! I received this over the weekend and I eagerly took pictures for the unboxing.
The first thing I noticed is that there is no box. Yes, you heard that right. This Elite Box does not actually come with the big elite box that I got for the first one. It came in with a cardboard sleeve, and a humongous black pouch! The pouch is bigger than I expected, and a lot more glam too!
Here are the products included in this Elite Box (they all fit into the pouch!).
As usual it came with the set of cute cards that discuss each product, and included the size of the product included, and the price of the full-sized product (note: the product included is not necessarily all full sized as I’ll show you below).
As there does not seem to have an order specified in the curation cards, I’ll do another Tellie and present them in the order of my preference.
1. Benefit It’s Potent Eye Cream
I definitely bought this set mainly for this product. I was a little sad that it was not full sized, but was only a teeny tiny 0.1oz sample. It’s great that I will be able to try this out as I’m still on the search for my HG eye cream and this is actually in my short list of eye creams to try. The full sized product is 0.5oz, and costs Php1800, so this sample should cost Php360. Benefit is largely cruelty-free. Update: Benefit does not test finished products on animals, but they do not guarantee the same for ingredients or chemicals. Thanks Carina for the info!
2. Fairydrops Platinum Mascara
I’ve been reading raves about this mascara, primarily from Liz of Project Vanity, and I’ve always wanted to try it out. The price is a little steep at Php1195 for a tube of mascara so I’ve never gotten the nerve to buy one. Since it’s included in this Elite Box this is also a big reason why I purchased the box. I don’t have information on Fairydrops’ stance on animal testing. Update: Fairydrops is most probably a cruelty-free company as they are carried by Beauty Bar and BB’s brands are mostly CF.
3. Revlon Photoready BB Cream Skin Perfector
I’m a big fan of Revlon, and have been wanting to try their BB creams for some time. Unfortunately they are not entirely a cruelty-free company so I’ve decided not to buy from them. However I will not turn my nose up when it is included in the Elite Box. I got the shade 020 Light Medium and I hope this is a good match for my skin tone. This is a full sized tube, 30ml, and costs Php725.
4. Goody So Bright Brush
Goody is one of those brands that I deem “nice to have” because of the price of the products. I believe that they have good quality products, but it really is a little steeply priced for me. This Elite Box has one of their brushes! It’s just a standard hair brush (good quality though!) but it already costs Php399.75. I have made a preliminary test of this and I love how it feels on my scalp. I got the pink version which is my second-favorite color. I don’t have information on Goody’s stance on animal testing.
5. L’Oreal Paris Extraordinary Oil
This would have been higher on the list, had I not just acquired the Lucido-L Hair Treatment from the SM Beauty Box. I am starting to be a fan of hair oils and this bottle seems really luxurious. Perhaps the heavy glass bottle (breakable!) and the gold sheen just screams luxury, but I’m definitely hoping this is a performer. This 100ml bottle costs Php499. L’Oreal is not cruelty-free.
6. Ralph Lauren Big Pony Fragrance
Now this would have been lower on the list, except I’m actually out for a replacement for my everyday fragrance (I ran out of my FCUK body spray). BDJ gives you the choice of the four variants of this fragrance, and I chose RL Yellow (pear and mimosa). It turns out to be a roll on fragrance which is a first for me. I love how this smells so far. This 10ml roll on tube costs Php750. RL is not cruelty-free.
7. Nippon Cleansing Kit
This is low on the list because I don’t really need a new makeup remover (I’m already contented with my current combo of Bifesta Cleansing Lotion and Celeteque Cleansing Oil). What I’m interested in is the Parian Wipe, which is a brush cleaner. The round sponges are a bonus and will definitely be used in the future. The total cost of this kit is Php410. I don’t have information on Nippon Esthetics’ stance on animal testing.
8. Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner
The reason that this is last on the list is called Eye of Horus Eyeliner. This Covergirl eyeliner basically has the same function as the EoH one and I’m not even using that often. This one costs Php450. I don’t have information on Covergirl’s stance on animal testing. Update: Covergirl is not cruelty-free.
Bonus: Goody Come Play! Invite
This would actually be #3 on the list since I would really want to go to this event!
My impressions of the Girls Night Out Elite Box: I love that almost all the items in this box is full sized. Only the Benefit eye cream and the brush wipes and sponges are the sample sized ones. It also seems that the products really do tie in with the overall theme of the box (Girls Night Out) and I can see myself really using almost all of the products in that respect. I love the pouch as well and would not scoff at using it as my clutch for an event.
Value review: The total value of the box is around Php4700, which is around 3 times the cost of the subscription (Php1680). Most of the value is in the first three items, which I would have paid to buy. All the other items can be considered free, and is definitely such a great value. To be honest the Covergirl eyeliner is the only one I didn’t want to get from this. And I get a nice pouch too! I’d say this Elite Box is a great buy.
After quite a few months of missing the BDJBox subscriptions, I finally am able to snag myself a quarterly. And just in time, as the May box is three kinds of awesome as you can see in a bit.
Warning: Photo-intensive post ahead.
The theme for this month is Fun Fresh Fierce, which is a clue to that three-fold awesomeness I was talking about. You see, it’s a three-brand exclusive box featuring Ralph Lauren (fun), Garnier (fresh), and Maybelline (fierce). I felt pretty lucky getting this box since I really regret missing the L’Oreal exclusive box (march). BDJ didn’t half-ass this one by just putting in one or two products per brand. No, it felt like I actually received three boxes this month! Check out the height of this box, they had to use a thicker sleeve to allow all products to fit.
Of course we have the usual welcome card and stickers, but in addition we also have separate cards for each of the brands. I’ll not discuss any of those cards anymore, but instead I will just show you.
I would just like to mention that there are several contests that can be joined this month because each brand card has a contest and the welcome card has three. Now, let’s take a look at the contents.
Check out how packed that is!
Let’s check out the Fun factor. This consists of four fragrances from Ralph Lauren, Big Pony Women #1-4. You already know that I’m not really a big fan of fragrances, so I’ll probably just pass this on to my mom. Each sample is 1.5ml, which costs about Php64.50, so total cost for all of these is Php258.
Next is the Fresh factor, which is six products from Garnier. To be honest I wasn’t that excited about this either since my last experience with Garnier broke me out (Brightening eye roll-on). However since I haven’t tried other Garnier products, I’m inclined to give it another shot.
First product is the biggest one in the May BDJBox: Garnier Light Intensive Brightening Scrub. It’s a facial exfoliator which I currently don’t have any, so I’m most excited in trying this out. It’s full sized, so the product value is the full Php140.
Next we have Garnier Light Complete Multi-Action Whitening Cream. I’m not really into whitening as I’m quite content with my complexion. I’m probably giving this away too, or save it for a future raffle. This is the full size product, so value is the full Php75.
Next we have the Garnier Light Overnight Whitening Peeling Cream. Well hello again, I’ve seen you before in my first ever BDJBox (November). I didn’t use it then, and I will not use it now either (see reason regarding whitening above). It will probably meet the same fate as the other whitening cream. This is also a full sized product, so value is the full Php229.
We have the first non-Light line from the brand, Garnier Pure Active Anti-Imperfections Cooling Roll-on. It’s basically for spot-treating redness and dark spots which I think can be used for either face or body. This is interesting and I am quite willing to try this out, although I have a similar product in the SoTrue Lavender Skin Repair Balm. We’ll see how it performs compared to that. This full sized roll-on has a value of Php229.
Finally we have a couple of masks from Garnier. An Oil Clear Self-Heating Mask which as the name suggests is an anti-oil treatment, and a Lightening Peel-Off Mask which is for treating dullness and removing impurities and dead skin cells, come in sets of two. I’m excited to try the lightening mask, but not very much about the self-heating mask. The last thing I want to do in summer is to heat any part of my body even further. Each of these is Php49, for a total value of Php98 for the masks.
The Garnier set comes up to a product value of Php771. From this I already got back the value of the subscription, and I still have the last (and dare I say the best?) set to go through.
Last but definitely not the least let’s check out the Fierce factor. It’s Maybelline! I can’t express how happy that made me. I’ve only had a few encounters with Maybelline so far (Baby Skin Pore Eraser, Great Lash Mascara, and a powder foundie waaay back) and I’m quite excited that I have tried none of the products in the box yet!
First up we have the Maybelline Clear Smooth All-in-One Shine-Free Foundation (To Go), whew what a mouthful. A powder foundation, with SPF! I’m quite thrilled to get this as I’m just currently using either BB creams or tinted moisturizers. I got the shade Natural. This small compact costs Php199.
Next we have Maybelline EyeStudio LuminEyes, an eyeshadow palette that has an included illuminating primer. The one I got is Bronze, which is composed of gold and bronze shades. I like that it’s very neutral and can be used on an everyday basis for office. This is again full sized, with a value of Php599.
Next is a mascara! Yay! It’s Maybelline The HyperCurl VolumExpress Waterproof Mascara. I can never say no to mascaras, and I’ve been looking for other variants as I’ve already tried the Great Lash. This one is waterproof which is just excellent since I do sweat quite easily. The only thing I’m scared off is the wand (it’s huge!). I’ve been known to stab myself in the eye with large mascara wands before, so hopefully it won’t happen with this one. It’s full sized and valued at Php250.
Next is perhaps my favorite item in the whole box, Maybelline Color Sensational Lasting Lipstick. I am recently addicted to lipsticks and this is quite exceptional. I got the Peachy Scene shade which is my MLBB. It’s also very hydrating and so far I’m really loving this. It’s definitely competing with my Snoe lippie for the favorite spot. It’s full sized and valued at Php399.
Finally we have Maybelline Baby Lips Color Lip Balm, in Berry Crush. To be honest I’m not really looking for more lip balms (I have a long list of balms to try!) but this is actually one of the brands I wanted to try. It may look pretty dark red, but it applies on sheer and has a really yummy scent. This costs Php89.
There we have it, a most awesome lineup for Maybelline. The product value is a whopping Php1536 which is about three times the value of the subscription. BDJ, you have outdone yourself!
And let’s not forget that there is still some vouchers included in the box, which is for Ralph Lauren.
And since I am a quarterly subscriber, I got a bonus item which is unfortunately my nemesis in Garnier’s lineup. Yep, it’s the Brightening Eye Roll-On. I am still grateful for receiving a bonus product, I will probably pass this on to my mom. Check it out, I got a nice handwritten note! (I love handwritten notes!)
My impressions of the May BDJBox: This is like a mini-exclusive, since we get 4-6 products per brand, but on steroids since we get three brands in one box! It’s absolutely mindboggling how amazing this box is. Never mind that the fragrances and about half the Garnier products are unusable to me, but BDJ is just so generous.
Value review: The total product value in this box comes up to an amazing Php2565! Even just taking the value of the Maybelline products makes this box one of the best ones released. Just a note though, BDJ has increased the cost of the subscription from Php480 to Php580. I don’t really mind this increase, since BDJ is consistently delivering premium boxes.
Right on the dot, my second GlamourBox arrived a few days after the 15th. It’s getting really difficult to sign up for it and I’m glad to have been able to get a March box. Let me show you what’s inside!
This month’s welcome card says that this month is “All About Us”. Products in this box are supposed to make us channel our inner goddess, and carry our own style with confidence. I’m so excited! Let’s see what’s under those white paper fillers.
Looks like we got some interesting stuff in here. Let’s see what they are one by one.
Not one, but two, bottles of Avon Skin So Soft Glutathione Whitening Hand and Body Lotion. Very good timing for summer! These 50ml bottles are perfectly sized for travel, and will definitely go with me to the beach! The welcome card says that “This lotion lightens dark spots caused by aging and keeps dull skin at bay for fairer, glowing skin. See results in just a few days!” I love lotions, and I’m very excited to try this. Each of the bottles are worth Php70.
An eye pencil! I love eye pencils, and I’m tickled to see that this one is by Eye of Horus. There had been lots of good reviews for the Eye of Horus Mascara, and I can’t wait to try out their eye pencil. This Eye of Horus Natural Smokey Eye Pencil, according to the welcome card: “Get that exotic kohl effect with this lusciously easy-to-apply eye pencil. Its unique formulation of Jojoba Wax and Mango Oil is 100% waterproof and glides on without tearing to give you an amazing goddess look.” It’s double ended, one end being the actual eye pencil, and the other end (gold capped) has a foam or rubber tip to help smudge out the line. This is the only full sized product in the box.
Ah, sachets. I guess it can’t be helped. These sachets are a set of Heynature BB Creams and one Heynature Aqua Brightening Gel. Heynature is a Korean brand. The BB Creams: “Combining authentic oriental ingredients and advanced dermatological formula, Heynature selects the finest natural ingredients to develop a distinctive BB Cream series that guarantees nourishment to the skin for a flawless finish.” The Aqua Brightening Gel, on the other hand: “This moisturizing gel transforms into pearl-like water droplets upon massaging the skin. It helps boost up skin hydration level and effectively soothes the skin, resulting in full elasticity with a luminous glow.” As these are really small sachets, I’ll estimate them at about 1g sample each, which gives us a per-sachet price of Php32.50 for the BB Creams and Php21.88 for the Gel.
Ah, this is the same Pevonia Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser that I received in my Jan BDJ Box. [EDIT: This is not the same. The one in the Jan BDJ Box is Pevonia Phyto Gel Cleanser.] “This gentle cleanser exfoliates dead cells and deep-cleanses to refine the skin’s texture. It prevents clogged pores and blackhead formation, leaving it soft, smooth, clean and bright.” I have been using this product occasionally and am quite satisfied by its performance, so I don’t really mind getting a second sample. This 5ml sample costs about Php98.33.
Finally we get two perfume samples, Big Pony 3 from Ralph Lauren and Saharienne from Yves SaintLaurent. Saharienne: “A pure object of the desire, Saharienne is the first fresh water splash fragrance ever created by the House of YSL. Its fusion of sparkling, mineral and solar flower notes is an uncommon concentrate of daring and sunshine, the hottest of all cool waters.” Big Pony 3: “Edgy and refined, this oriental floral scent contains key ingredients of Wild Cherry and Purple Amber. Designed for the stylish woman, she catches the eye and imagination of anyone who crosses her path.” A preliminary sniff proves that both are quite acceptable scents, and I particularly like the Saharienne. These 1.5ml sample tubes are worth Php86 (Saharienne) and Php64.50 (Big Pony 3). As a bonus, the cards that they come with are vouchers for free gifts when you purchase any fragrance from their specific brands.
We do of course get bonus gift cards or vouchers. For this month, we get a Php2000 gift voucher for SureSlim Wellness Centre, which gives us a Php2000 discount when enrolling in their Weightloss Program. This is not valid for any other SureSlim products, and we can only use 1 voucher per enrollee. This is valid for a whole year, however, which is pretty good. The second coupon is a 10% off voucher for Travalo Classic and Classic Excel Refillable Perfume Spray. It is valid until May 15, 2013 and can be used in the GlamourBox online store.
My impressions of the March GlamourBox: In general I think I like this better than the February box, since I can definitely use the eye pencil and the lotions. There is still the problem of the sachets and the perfume samples though, but I’ve resolved to make the most of it. I’m definitely pleasantly surprised that I like the fragrances. I also like that they introduce us to a new brand I’ve never seen before (Heynature) and fragrances from brands I would probably never even think of. I will still continue the subscription if I can.
Value review: The total value of this box is about Php1500, excluding the voucher values. The eye pencil alone covers the cost I paid for the monthly subscription (Php595) so I definitely get my money back and more.
