What I Packed: Makeup (Caribbean 2015)

As I mentioned, I went to the Caribbean for work for about 8 days. I want to show you what I packed, and this might be a several-post series. First I want to show you the makeup I brought. Take note that this is a mainly work trip, so I focused mostly on work-appropriate makeup.

I packed everything in an Ellana Minerals makeup bag that I got with my major Ellana haul last year.

Here are all the makeup I brought. All of these fit quite well in the bag, although I have maybe a lipstick and lipbalm or two in my purse during the flight. The makeup bag itself is packed in my checked in luggage, as I didn’t really plan to fiddle around with any of that during the flight itself. [Bit of trivia: The total travel time was about 33 hours going to the Caribbean (with about a 2-hour layover in the middle of that), and 41 hours going back to the Philippines (8-hour layover).]

Looking at the items one by one, we’ll start with the bases. I only brought the following (clockwise from the top): Colour Collection Age Defying BB Cream, Essence All About Matt! Fixing Loose Powder, Ellana Minerals Lip & Cheek Duo Palette, Pixy Ultimate Makeup Cake, and Happy Skin SS Creme. I was able to use all of these, and I can say that the Colour Collection one was the least used because I found myself reaching for the others instead. I only brought one blush (which is actually two blushes), and I’m wondering if I should have brought powder blush instead of cream blush.

Next we have the eye and eyebrow products. Again going clockwise from the top: Etude House Proof10 Eye Primer in a Beabi container, Catrice Absolute Eye Color Quad, Colourpop Super Shock Eyeshadow in Smash and Bae, Wet and Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Palette (Walking on Eggshells), VMV Hypoallergenics Ooh La Lash Mascara, Happy Skin Eye Love View Eyebrow Duo, Pixy Waterproof Mascara, Pixi Brow Duo. There is not one of these that I used, and the most abused one is the Colourpop Smash which I used almost everyday. It’s really a great base for any eye looks. There were a couple of social events which made me happy I brought Bae.

Moving on to my lip products, which, looking at it now, looks like too much. Going clockwise from the top, we have Clinique Long Last Lipstick in All Heart, Ofra Lipstick #205, Happy Skin Lippie in The Morning After (with all the silver design almost rubbed out now), Snoe Beso Balm, Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Raisin, Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Honeysuckle, Colourpop Lip Stix in Fetch and Grind, Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Bellissima, Pixy Silky Fit Lipstick in Red Chili Semi Matte. Whew, that is 8 lipsticks and 2 lipbalms! I used all of these at least once in the 8 days I was there (here? I wrote this while in the Caribbean in fact!), but I could probably stand bringing less especially with the similar colors (I have too many reds). The only thing I didn’t use is Snoe Beso Balm, because on the day I flew out I received the Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm at Liz‘s 7th blog anniversary party (thank you Liz!!), and I actually liked it enough to use it exclusively.

I was not able to include the brushes in the collective photo because my table is already pretty full, but I did bring a few. From left to right I have a travel sized powder brush from Landmark (came in a set), Artist Studio full sized powder brush, Charm angled eye brush for lining the eyes, Charm small eyeshadow brush, and Artist Studio eyeshadow brush. I brought two eyeshadow brushes because I couldn’t bring a blending brush (all mine are dirty by the time I left!) and one of these will have to do that function. I haven’t used the travel sized powder brush because I totally forgot I brought cream blushes instead of powder blushes.

There you have it! I’m actually quite pleased with the things I packed except for some minor issues (cream instead of powder blush, too many red lipsticks). I’m also happy it fit very well in one bag, since it turns out I didn’t have a lot of luggage space considering I was staying for a bit over a week.

What would you have changed in my setup?

    1. Yeah at some point I’m thinking I should have taken out like five lipsticks, but there was enough room so I just shrugged and chucked them all in! 😛 This is also the trip I wish I had something like a Lorac Pro so I can really only have one eye palette with infinite combinations.

  1. I think I would’ve brought the same amount you did. I’m an overpacker, and I need my choices. Haha. I can get by on just one base and a concealer. One long shadow palette. Two blushes. But when it comes to the lip products, I swear to bring three (morning-appropriate, evening-appropriate, gloss) and end up with at least five. Yet I still end up only using two. Can totally relate to the point where you go, “It looks like too much.”

    1. I am probably fooled by the amount of space I had in the Ellana bag, so I felt “permitted” to bring all these choices haha! I should have just used a smaller makeup bag and brought less products to be honest, and maybe I would have had space for more clothes instead. This is one of the reasons I wanted to write about what I packed, so I (and my readers) can learn from my mistakes! 😀
